Why Fleas May Manifest Other Health Problems in Cats

If you have seen your kitty scratching a lot recently or think you may be experiencing a flea problem make sure you’re mindful of the secondary problems fleas can create. Unfortunately fleas sometimes also cause a combination of things like feline worms.

Cats may be allergic to flea bites and they may experience a reaction. Fleas can also carry tapeworm so a flea issue may start a problem with worms.

If you find out your cat has fleas the priority is eliminating them. After you’ve exterminated the fleas you can treat any other cat health issues the fleas may have produced.

Flea treatment will include treating your cat, your home and treating area outside where your cat spends time. Because it involves so many areas you will want to consider all the potential treatments. If you have children, if your pets have problems with traditional flea products or if you do not like using pesticides you should look for one of the natural flea control treatments for your cat.

Probably the main of natural flea products is diaomaceous earth, a natural powder that dehydrates and kills fleas. Diatomaceous earth can even be used directly on your pets, you can also dust it onto the floor, around baseboards in your pet’s bedding etc.

If you’re looking for a more conventional product one of the simplest to apply is the once a month topical, which is put on your cat’s back between the shoulder blades where she isn’t able to lick it. You’ll also want to treat your house with something like a flea bomb or flea spray.

The other way to begin eradicating fleas immediately is to vacuum every single day and discard the vacuum bag. Vacuum the furniture, the carpet and everywhere your cat spends a lot of time in the house.

Be sure to read and follow directions cautiously with all flea control methods because they often contain components that may be bad for people and pets when not applied correctly.
